Hi Jim,
I just finished reading your book. I signed up for an msf class
after I flipped the last page and I am feeling a little more confident
about the whole experience. I am a petite woman and have always wanted
to be more than a passenger but never got up the courage. Thanks for
providing that first baby step!
Update: I took the motorcycle class today and had a great time. They
put me on a little Honda Rebel which was perfect for my build. I am
hooked! Thanks for getting me started. I found that learning the
material they gave us in class came easier for me after reading your
book as well.

I've received my e-book, have printed it out and it's exactly what I
needed and wanted. The contents fit the bill for me as I am a woman,
62, slightly built, very fit and nervous about the whole thing. I've
always wanted to do this and it's now or never. I am about to sign up
for the driver's training.
I have researched several sites and found this book to cover
everything that a beginner would need to know, unlike most of them. I
would also like to add that I liked the constant emphasis on the danger
and the safety aspects. At times I wondered if it were a good thing for
me to do but the writer also encourages you to "follow your dream." And
that's very good indeed.

"An Eye Opening Book"
I had no idea about all the little facets involved with learning a to
ride a motorcycle. Like an ignorant newbie, I just assumed you could
hop on and ride away, like a bicycle. I am extremely glad I read this
book before trying anything stupid on a motorcycle. I just got my
motorcycle license and bought a used GS500E and I'm loving every minute
of it! [insert cheesy grin here]. I highly recommend this ebook.

"Learned a Lot"
I'm impressed by the amount of material covered in this book. I knew
literally nothing at all about motorcycles, except that I wanted to
ride one... you have to ask why, being a girl who knows absolutely
nobody who rides a motorcycle. Or "bike" I guess I should say. Go
figure. Anyway, I just passed my license test and I'm so excited about
getting a bike of my own. I definitely learned a lot.

Hello. My name is Harry Humphries and I am a 65 year old grandfather.
And yes, I ride a motorcycle.
I bought the first edition of this book 3 years ago. I've been
meaning to write a review during this time, but I never got around to
it until now. Too busy riding I suppose. I see you changed your
website. It looks much nicer.
I purchased "Learn to Ride a Motorcycle" at a time when I was just
retired from my position as a school administrator and I honestly
didn't know what I was going to do with my time. I had secretly wanted
to try riding a motorcycle all my life, but had never actually taken
the plunge. And before I knew it, I was a grandfather, and--I
thought--now too old. But this book convinced me that it wasn't too
late to try!
When I went to the training session, I thought I would be the oldest
new student by far...surprise! I was actually only the second oldest,
and there were numerous other students in their 40s and 50s, as well as
many women. I purchased my first bike, the Vulcan 500, 3 years ago,
which I have since sold (but am still very fond of in my heart). Now, I
am a big fan of "touring" bikes because they are so comfortable for an
"old fogey" such as myself.
At the beginning, my wife was against the idea of me riding
motorcycles, but when she realized that I was firmly convinced in what
I wanted, she was won over, and now rides along with me as my loyal
passenger. And the grandkids think it is so "cool" that "grandpa rides
a Harley." (It's actually a Honda Goldwing, but the bike itself doesn't
really matter, just the ride!)
The motorcycle community is so amazing, and we've met so many
honest, down-home, quality folks over the past few years. The highlight
of every weekend is when my wife and I meet up with our favorite local
community of Goldwing riders and take a long scenic group tour
together. I want to personally thank Jim Carpenter for writing this
book, as it got me started on a path that has quite literally changed
our lives. I believe what sets Jim apart is his unwavering commitment
to safety, and that has made all the difference to me. Now, I can't
even imagine retirement without riding!

"A D*** Good Guide to Learning Motorcycles"
I have been turned off in the past by some motorcycling books that tend
to be jazzy and stylish with little or no emphasis on safety but your
book got me going. Learn to Ride a Motorcycle is written with a safe
rider in mind. Jim's step-by-step approach to introducing the world of
motorcycling helped me a lot. He recommends taking a structured
approach to motorcycling--getting the right mindset, clearing all the
wrong notions about riding (created by Hollywood movies), getting
trained, selecting the proper gear and then buying a bike. Jim
Carpenter has done a great job by giving additional information about
selecting the right type of bike, gear etc. I will be getting my first
motorcycle very soon. I think Learn to Ride a Motorcycle is not only a
good book for beginners but it also has a lot to offer to the riders
already on the streets.
